Sassy City Chicks in Miami

by: Brittany

Last week the Sassy City Chicks team traveled east to the beautiful city of Miami. I have to admit, I thought going to Miami from Los Angeles would be no big deal - after all, both cities have warm weather, palm trees and sandy beaches. However, the atmosphere in South Florida is like none other. The city buzzes with a tropical, electrifying energy that makes you never want to leave, but instead fit in with the crowd of beautiful, trendy natives that surround you. Something else I noticed during my visit? The people are incredibly friendly. (A special shout out to our server at Park Central Cafe, Leo!) Our team both started and ended our stay in Miami by toasting to Sassy City at this little spot on Ocean Drive in South Beach. But enough about that, let's get to the good stuff - the Chick's Night Out Event!

Off to the Miami Event Space we go

The event was held Thursday, October 4th at the Miami Event Space. We woke up with the sunrise that morning so we could get to the venue right away and put the finishing touches on all things sassy.

Audrey, Christina and I packed into our rented minivan (don't judge us, we had over 800 gift bags when had to transport...if it were up to me, we would've rented the mint green Fiat) and headed from South Beach to the MiMo District where the venue was located. After shamelessly stopping at McDonald's for a few breakfast hashbrowns to get us going (coffee, who?), we arrived at the space and began creating the vendor layout, hanging event banners and answering any and all questions our vendors and shoppers had.

Check in area

Where are these Miami ladies?

One by one designers, jewelry makers, cosmetics companies and brand representatives began pouring into the venue. Before we knew it - everyone had set up, the DJ was spinning tunes and we were ready for the shoppers! We opened the doors promptly at 5pm, and the eager women starting coming.

However, for a little while we were a bit confused - where were all the shoppers? It was 6pm and only 150 or so had come through the door. It was then that our friendly, upbeat security guard Alex told us - "Oh, don't worry. Miami girls are different. They take their time, they are fashionably late. The party doesn't start until later in South Florida." And boy was he right!

Shoppers enjoying the delicious cocktails
An hour later shoppers filled the entire venue - admiring the beautiful clothing, getting complimentary massages at the Spa Lounge and sipping cotton candy cocktails. Sure, they may have come a little later than we expected, but these girls knew how to have an amazing time!

A few designers that stood out

Whenever we get home to LA after a show, our interns always ask us - "who were the best designers, which were your favorites?!" This is always a tough question to answer, but in Miami it's downright impossible. I was blown away by the vendors we had at our event. Each one truly offered something unique and beautiful.

One that caught my eye was Carolina Benoit. Her pieces are handmade and it's easy to see the effort she puts into each garment. The clothing is delicate, feminine and trendy. I feel in love with the Aqua Chiffon A-Line Cotton Candy Dress - it's breathtaking. Lorie Lester also had amazing pieces, my favorite was the navy tulip skirt that had a funky print of white eyeglasses.

Arm Candy

When it comes to jewelry, there were countless designers who had great stuff, but two had pieces that looked extra special to me - Bianca Milov of Bianca Milov Jewelry and Claudia Camargo of Arm Candy. Both of these ladies clearly have a knack for creating young, fun and whimsical jewelry. If you love color, you have to check out both of these lines!

Beauty and relaxation

Anyone who's been to a Sassy City Chicks event knows that it's the mecca for all things beauty. For this reason, the ladies really enjoyed Antonym Cosmetics at the event. Shoppers were surprised to find Antonym lip gloss in their event gift bags and were wowed at the company's booth by the bright shades of shadows, blushes and bronzers that were available.

As always, the Spa Lounge was also a huge hit in Miami. Spas offering their services included V Spa, Always InStyle Makeovers and Roberto Giordano Salon
