Virtual Makeovers

Hello Fashionistas!
It’s officially post Labor day and most of the country has been feeling the weather shift from sweltering heat to tolerable cool and in some cases COLD days. The first thing I think of is pulling out my cooler weather clothes and accessories (Who doesn’t love a great scarf?). Whenever the weather changes I always get the urge to change or color my hair. In the fall I love to add more low lights and let my natural wave show a little more. If you are thinking about a change or admire a new celebrity do that just might work for you. Try it online. ivillage.com has a great makeover program where you can upload your photo or use one of theirs. You can try that hot, short Victoria Beckham hair before you actually chop your locks off. I love playing around with new looks. It’s one of the only programs I’ve seen that also allows you to add accessories. Share yours with us!
Have fun! Happy Makeovers!

Metallic Fall Fashion

Hello Fashionistas!

Metallics have come in and out of style for years and they are back in a big way this fall. As you’ve read in my previous post, the MTV VMAs were only a small sample. Adding metallics to your wardrobe will vamp up your glam factor and they aren’t just eveningwear anymore. There are lots of great daywear pieces to incorporate into your wardrobe without breaking your bank account.

As with all trends there are "rules" to guide you through picking out what to wear to look your best. First and foremost every fashionista should always wear what works for her body type and skin tone. Head to toe metallic must be avoided no matter who you are. Metallic makes a bold statement in an outfit, and it's best to use pieces minimally. Carry a metallic handbag. wear a belt around a dress or pair of slacks. Make a bold statement with a head band. One of the safest ways to introduce metallics to a wardrobe is shoes. Try silver shoes with a grey outfit, or gold shoes with a black outfit.

Keep the metallic to the slimmest part of the body. The light reflection will grab attention. If you have a tiny waist, wear a metallic belt around it. Wear a top with metallic embellishments around the neckline to show off cleavage. Don't wear a metallic skirt if your rear is big (that is, unless you’re really proud of it).

Choose between gold, silver or bronze in one outfit. Silver can look wonderful and flattering on light skin tones, while gold and bronze complements warmer complexions.

Go for metallic details to keep it minimal. Try a shirt with metallic threads, buttons or other embellishments. Wear a tunic with metallic embellishments on the front.

Have fun building your new fall wardrobe!

Haute Metallic Hues at the MTV VMAs

Hello Fashionistas!
Award shows always bring out the best and worst in fashion and the VMA’s are no exception. In fact I think they may be my favorite. Artists are at liberty to dress however they see fit and a lot of them take risks that push beyond the boundaries of convention. One thing that can’t be denied is metallic will be huge this fall and these ladies rock it! Here are some of the hits of the night:

Gossip Girl’s Leighton Meester in a silver Cota mini dress and studded heels
Singer Taylor Swift wearing a one-shoulder KaufmanFranco draped silver sequin gown
Actress Kristen Stewart in metallic beaded tulle Valentino dress with Rock & Republic heels and House of Lavande jewelry

Actress Miranda Cosgrove in a gold-embellished mini dress

The Hills’ Kristin Cavallari in a strapless vintage dress and YSL platform shoes
Stay tuned. I’ll be following up to tell you how you can get these star-worthy looks without spending too much dough.

New York Fashion Week

Hello Fashionistas!

New York Fashion week is in full force and one of our favorite fierce designers knocked it out of the park today, Christian Siriano. The theme for the show was Mediterranean and included a sneak peak of his up coming shoe collection for payless set for retail in 2010. Although the shoes don’t seem to be created for a Payless demographic they are “fierce”. Siriano’s aesthetic is a combination of feminine elegance and edgy sexy structured pieces. We’ll just have to wait and see if these architectural masterpieces actually make it to Payless shelves without too much editing.

Lovin' Eva Franco!

Hello Fashionistas!

As you know I love classic designers. By that I mean the tried and true such as Dolce and Gabbana, Fendi and Gucci but all of these labels all had to start somewhere. A relatively new hot designer I have simply fallen for is Eva Franco. Born in Hungry she studied in New York and Paris and now lives and works in Los Angeles. Her business began when she would wear her own designs and people would stop her and want to buy them. Her pieces are not basics. She strives to create collections were each individual piece is unique and an expression of creativity.

My favorite of the Spring ’09 collection are Godiva pieces. They look sinfully delicious, a creative play on their chocolate counterpart.

You can find Franco’s pieces in stores listed on her website and they will be sold at the upcoming Las Vegas Bash. Check out our giveaways for more info.

Neiman Marcus Last Call Clearance Center

Hello Fashionistas!

We are always on the lookout for the best deals on the labels you want. That’s why I had to tell you about the new store that opened last Thursday at The Block at Orange. I love going to the Block to shop at Saks Off 5th and now right next door
Neiman Marcus opened a Last Call Clearance Center. The store is filled with gorgeous clothes, shoes, handbags and home goods at low prices. I fell in love at first sight. Of course I couldn’t leave empty handed so I bought a $200 Dolce & Gabbana dress originally priced at $900.

Hot Auctions!

Hello Fashionistas!

You know Sassy Chick is always looking to get you the hottest goods at a great deal! This is something completely new that I think is worth checking out. PropertyRoom.com auctions stolen, seized, recovered, unclaimed and surplus items from law enforcement agencies from coast to coast and Hawaii! The site works similarly to eBay. They auction everything from Roberto Cavalli sunglasses to bikes and laptops. I personally watched a lot of 20 beach cruisers sell for $450. That’s under $23 a bike. Trust me on this, you will want to check this website out!

Summer Sun, Ocean Water, Chlorine...Oh My!

Fashionitas,

All of these elements strip hair leaving it looking and feeling dull, brittle and dry. Here are a few homemade inexpensive ways to revive your summer hair slump.

Before swimming in chlorinated water rinse your hair in clean water and apply a leave in conditioner so your hair is protected from soaking up chlorine.

Deep Cleansing Shampoo
Mix the contents of a green-tea bag and two tablespoons of olive oil, with the juice of a half a lemon and half an orange. Whip In a blender. Then massage into hair and leave on for fifteen minutes. Shampoo and condition.

For a quick and easy deep clean add 1 tbsp baking soda to your regular shampoo... it's better than most striping shampoos on the market and only about $1 for a box.

Shine-Boosting Conditioner
Brew a cup of tea in a flavor close to your hair color.

Blonde/Chamomile
Brunette/black current
Redhead/Orange pekoe

Mix equal parts tea with hair conditioner. Use once or twice a week.

How to add volume to hair
Steep a bag of nettle tea in a cup of water and apply to clean and conditioned hair while damp. Nettle coats and thickens your hair shaft.

Remember, the easiest and best way to protect your hair is simply to wear a hat when you will be in the sun for extended periods of time.

Sassy Chick
