Hair Tips For the Rainy Season

Listen up Fashionistas!

With only weeks left of summer and fall quickly approaching, we will soon be kissing endless sunshine and cloudless skies goodbye. The rainy season is just around the corner, which can set off the bad hair day radar for any diva. Frizz and fly aways become almost impossible to tame and sometimes those knit berets just don’t do the trick. Luckily there are a few great tips you can try to keep those locks well groomed!

Manage Frizz: Keep hair hydrated and protected against humidity. Frizz most commonly occurs when dry hair absorbs water from a humid environment. Use a cream based shampoo and conditioner to add moisture to your hair, but make sure to rinse thoroughly to keep locks from looking greasy. Also, a couple drops of silicone based oil or spray serves as an excellent frizz fighter!

Wear a cute headband: A small (1 ½ “- 2”) plastic headband is perfect paired with short haircuts or any above-the-shoulder length style. A chic wrap headband worn just behind the hairline looks fabulous for longer styles.

Style Strategically: Try a messy side braid or a low chignon for long hair and pin back short styles with cute clips or a bedazzled barrette. These options will keep hair looking polished even in the sloppiest weather conditions.

Look fabulous in any season!

Body Confidence

Attention All Fashionistas!

Plastic surgery has become so popularized today that getting a different nose seems as casual as buying a new dress. Even the most gorgeous young women are pushed into wanting something more or something different. What happened to loving and embracing your natural body? Ladies it is so important to recognize and appreciate how all of your little imperfections are what makes you an individual!

It's not hard to see why so many beautiful young women are driven to plastic surgery; with all the celebrities buying into this trend, we are set with unrealistic standards of beauty. We have witnessed the transformation of sweet faced Heidi Montag into today's Barbie-zilla. The transformation was quite a shock to the public, and apparently it become even too much for Heidi herself! Montag was quoted as saying, "I can't live an everyday life. I feel trapped in my own body." After weeks of plastic surgery, Montag has now decided to attempt to undo some of the drastic physical alterations she had done months ago.

Take it from Heidi Montag- the grass is always greener on the other side. Having confidence and learning to love your body is what's really sexy. Remember that ladies!

The New No Chip Nail!

Check it out Fashionistas!

Say goodbye to old fashioned nail polish, and welcome in the nail revolution! Nail brands are now producing a new kind of nail polish produced in the form of a gel. Paint it on like the old school style, and have beautiful nails for 2-4 weeks! Since it doesn't chip or fade away, there's no more worrying about tacky grungy nails so you can look fabulous round the clock. When you are ready for a color change, simply soak your nails in acetone for up to ten minutes and watch the colors slide away. Let's face it, between our social lives and our fabulous affairs, the modern fashionista shouldn't have to waste valuable time sitting at home literally waiting for paint to dry. OPI's version is one of our favorites, although this kind of polish is not exclusive to the brand, and many other companies have their own lines with great colors to choose from.

Happy painting!

Controversial Eminem/Rihanna Music Video

Fashionistas,

In case you haven't already heard, there is much debate stirring around the controversial music video "Love The Way You Lie," by domestic abuse victim Rihanna and domestic abuse instigator Eminem. The video features the two artists singing outside of a burning house, while Megan Fox is featured as a young woman engaged in a very violent relationship. The video is supposedly meant to expand people's awareness of abusive relationships, however the way the video has come together doesn't look so much educational as encouraging. Not only are messages such as "I love it the more that I suffer" explicitly spelt out in Eminem's lyrics, but even Rihanna looks as if she is in sheer ecstasy while she talks about being beaten, and Fox is also clearly portrayed as getting sexual enjoyment out of the abusive relationship. Even though the video is meant to discourage violence, I feel as if I am watching a cigarette ad, where the women are romanticizing the idea of domestic violence, making it look like the cool dangerous thing to do. My fear is that this video will popularize the idea of severe violence as being sexual, just like the Twilight series inspired young girls to cut themselves to be more like the rebellious Bella. Watch the video and develop an opinion for yourself- is this video a friend or foe?

The Bachelorette Finale!

Fashionistas!

We have all been long anticipating the decision of Ali Fedotowski when it comes to picking her husband on The Bachelorette. The popular vote went out to Frank for most of the season, but America was forced to change their mind when Frank unexpectedly left Ali for his ex-girlfriend shortly before the final episode. Ali was clearly devastated from Frank's quick departure, and America's hearts skipped a beat while furiously working to untangle the mystery of who would win over Ali's love.
Luckily for us (and for Ali!), Roberto took a lead in the race for Ali's heart. He wooed Ali and America and left us feeling excited come season end, unlike the finale of last season's The Bachelor, when the controversial Vienna was the only one left standing. Although our hearts broke slightly while having to endure watching Chris's face when Ali broke the news, we couldn't be more happy for Ali and Roberto, who appeared smitten with each other in public for the first time after the finale aired. The true test now is to see how long it lasts, as only one couple from previous seasons has actually made it down the aisle, although Ali and Roberto swear now that this match is for good. We hope so too Ali- good luck!
