Paris Fashion Week: The Resurgence of Punk

We have now entered into the third day of Paris Fashion Week, and one theme has already been made clear--the "punk look" is resurfacing as the latest fall trend. Tatooed models, wearing studded jackets and tattered jeans, tromp down the runways of some of Paris' most legendary designers, like Nicolas Ghesquiere of Balenciaga and Balmain's Christophe Decarin.

Decarnin has incorporated many elements of punk culture in past collections, but never has this theme been so resounding. Pieces like torn denim cut-offs, studded jackets, leather combat boots, and vests adorned with zippers and grommets were so prevalent you would think that you just got thrown into the roaring audience of a Dead Kennedys concert.

September 10, 2010 marks the first day of Fashion’s Night Out and stores all over the world will be extending their hours to create a premier shopping experience for the public. Los Angeles' Beverly Center will serve as the main arena in which the celebration will take place, but communities all over Los Angeles from Robertson Avenue to Abbot Kinney will also host unique shopping events that will surely have fashion-crazed consumers buzzing. Some of the industry’s top models, fashion designers, and celebrities will be making appearances to add to the excitement.

Fashion’s Night Out is a global initiative created to raise awareness about the Fashion industry, rebuild the economy, and aid a charitable cause. Each Year, exclusive merchandise is created on behalf of Fashion's Night Out and a portion of the proceeds of all goods sold is donated to charity. This year the charity of choice is the NYC AIDs fund. What originally began in NYC has become a global phenomenon, with countries like Australia and Germany even following suit.
