D.I.Y: Tribal Nail Art

There's just TWO days left to enter in our "Do-It-Yourself" contest and this is our FINAL new post to choose from! We're big fans of nail art and incorporating fun styles to make any manicure stand out. With bright tribal prints being a big trend for Spring, we decided it would look great on our nails - and it took less than 5 minutes!

1.) Start by painting your nails any color of your choice.

2.) Pick out another nail color (with a thinner brush) and make vertical lines.

3.) Take your brush again and make diagonal lines from your original starting point.

4.) Finish it off with another set of diagonal lines in the opposite direction.

D.I.Y: Ballerina Bun Remix

The Sassy City Chicks "do-it-yourself" projects are always expanding and today we decided to tackle some hair-dos. We fell in love with the "Ballerina Bun Remix" on Lauren Conrad's beauty tip website, "The Beauty Department" and we just had to try it! Within minutes, we were rocking a bun with a fun twist -- a great style that can be worn day to night!

1.) Flip your head over and brush out your hair to give it extra volume.

2.) While your head is still flipped, gather a section of hair from the base of your head.

3.) Begin to braid your hair and stop where you want the bun to start.

4.) Then secure the braid with an elastic, twist your hair to form a bun, and pin it down.

Sassy Tip: Tease your hair and top off with hairspray for a more polished look!

D.I.Y: Leather Ring Bracelet

If you haven't noticed by now, we've been on a D.I.Y frenzy these days! We stumbled upon the blog, "I Spy DIY" and fell in love with Jenni's weekly projects and personal style. Her fun D.I.Y projects are super affordable and cover all the latest trends too -- with a one-of-a-kind feel! With just a trip to your local fabric store you can recreate this faux leather ring bracelet in minutes.

1.) Supplies you'll need: faux leather strip, scissors, fabric snaps, superglue, ruler, and ring.

2.) Measure and cut 2 inches of the fabric then wrap the leather around the ring and superglue the end down (allow 10 minutes for drying).

3.) Wrap the leather around your wrist to measure where the snap closures should be placed. Mark the placements and glue the snaps down (allow 15-20 minutes for drying).

4.) Once dried, wrap the bracelet around your wrist and secure.

Happy New Year to all our sassy chicks! We decided to start 2012 with a bang and create two fashionable D.I.Y accessories for you all to try. Channeling our favorite D.I.Y blog yet again, "P.S. - I Made This...", we picked some easy crafts with basic items you can find in your house -- no need to spend any extra money! How chic & savvy of you ;)

1.) Gather your collection of rings & charms along with a string of ribbon (any color of your choice!)

2.) Cut your ribbon to the desired length (we opted for a shorter look) and begin sliding your rings.

3.) Secure the ribbon with just a simple knot in the back.

1.) Grab some necklace charms, earrings, and jewels along with scissors, binder clip, ribbon, and a carabiner clip.

2.) String your charms along the ribbon and knot at ends (tip: go for different lengths for a more fun look!)

3.) Take your ribboned charms and attach them to a binder clip (we had a left over charm that did the trick).

4.) Slide the charms to the carabiner clip and fasten to your purse.

D.I.Y: Fringe Scarf

We all know that scarves are the ultimate winter accessory this season but who says you can't personalize your look? Taking a cue from "P.S. - I Made This..." by Erica Domesek we got a little crafty in the office today...and so can you! By following these easy steps you can take any old t-shirt and transform it into a very fashionable fringe scarf.

1.) Cut horizontally across the shirt, just below the armholes, to create a rectangular tube.

2.) Make vertical cuts along the tube that extend from the raw edge upward (the longer the cuts, the longer the fringe).

3.) Once you've finished cutting, tug down on each strand to elongate the fringe for a more dramatic effect.

The styles and options are limitless...so have fun with it and show off your sassy personality ;)

The LASH CARD is an uber fast and easy way to get you to bat those beautiful lashes -- clump and smudge free! Just follow these simple steps:

1.) Determine the right curve size to your eye with the mascara shield (large or small)

2.) Gently lift your lashes onto the LASH CARD (tip: curl your lashes first)

3.) Apply a couple coats of your fave mascara against the card

...and VOILA the perfect lashes!

SOLZ Shoe Drive at San Francisco Fashion Bash

San Francisco fashionistas are invited to recycle their 'gently worn' shoes in an effort to help distribute shoes to people in need!

SOLZ shoes will be hosting a “Shoe Drive” for partner charity Soles4Souls at our San Francisco Fashion Bash at Herbst Pavillion in Fort Mason this Friday, Sept. 16 from 5-10pm in order to collect new or gently worn footwear and/or donations to make a tangible difference through the gift of shoes. Every donation will support the charity’s initiative to distribute shoes to those in need. In addition, for every pair of SOLZ shoes purchased or pre-ordered, SOLZ will donate a portion of the proceeds that fully enables a pair of shoes to be distributed. Newspaper Nails

We've seen this funky nail design popping up recently, so we thought we'd share! Here's how to have the news at your fingertips ;)

Start with 2 coats of a light colored base polish.
Allow nails to dry completely! This is a very important step!
Dip one nail into rubbing alcohol (70%) for about 5 seconds.
Place newspaper on nail. Press & hold for 10-15 seconds.
Carefully remove the newspaper.
Repat steps 3-5 for each nail

Ta-da! You should have a fun print transfered onto your nail! We've seen some adventurous fashionistas use maps, movie ratings, and comics found in newspapers to create designs with real personality.

The Waterfall

This style is a great day-to-night look because you can easily sass it up by curling the ends before heading out. The Fishtail

Perfect for a day at the beach, fishtail braids will stay put while catching rays or playing beach volleyball. They've been spotted on countless celebrities from Diane Kruger to Blake Lively. Instead of braiding three pieces of hair like a classic braid, hair is divided in half from crown to nape. Small sections from the outside of each half are crossed over each other and held on the inside of the opposite section to create the "fishtail." Starting can be difficult, but there are DIY tutorials all over YouTube!

NATURAL Beauty Solutions

Women are always searching for the newest beauty remedies for their nails, skin, and hair. However, what most do not realize is that our daily cosmetics contain very harsh chemicals and are doing more harm then good to our body over time. The best beauty solutions for our bodies are those that are fully natural. Here are some basic solutions that will help you not only look younger longer but help you radiate confidence!

1) Eye Solution: Using Almond Oil

a. Combine 2 tsp. almond oil and 2 tsp. honey. Apply mixture below eyes before you go to bed. Massage it gently into the dark circles. Rinse in the morning.

b. Combine 4 tsp. almond oil and 4 tsp milk powder. Mix and form thick paste. Apply under eyes and allow to sit for at least 10 minutes. Rinse off.

These treatments can be done as often as you desire. The almond oil will not only help in preventing wrinkles around the eyes, but it will also diminish dark circles over time.

2) Hair Solution: Lavender/Rosemary Hair Oil

a. Combine 1 Ounce of Rosemary Oil and 1/8 ounce of Lavender Oil. When using, apply a few drops in your palm and brush your palm against the hairbrush; then brush your hair. Makes about 6 months worth. Store in a bottle in a dark area.

This can be repeated as often as desired, however, it is recommended 2-3 times a week. This natural conditioner treatment will give your hair the shine and strength from your youth.

3) Nail Solution: Rehydrate, Moisturize, Nourish

a. In order to keep from having dry nails and lock in natural oils, soak your fingertips in warm water for 8-10 minutes, then apply thick lotion or Vaseline especially along cuticles. Best results will be acquired by doing this treatment directly before bed and then wearing gloves while you sleep.

b. The best natural moisturizers contain alpha and/or beta hydroxy acids. Apply these type of lotions daily in order to retain the moisture in your nails.

c. In order to nourish your nails, the simple key is eating healthy and taking a multi vitamin daily. Many solutions have been written about certain foods that help in nail strengthening and grow, however, a healthy low preservative diet is the best solution that can be offered.

Don't wait to start being NATURAL in your daily beauty routines. What have you got to lose besides wrinkles, brittle hair, and dry nails! These are just a few solutions to help you stay SASSY!

Combat Your Cold (In Style!)

Leather boots, wool peacoats, and (faux) fur accessories: oh-so-chic. Runny noses, itchy eyes, and constant coughing attacks: not so much.

We'll agree that flu season is anything but fashionable, but we have a few tips to soothe your symptoms and brighten your mood this winter:

Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate! Take Mom's advice and drink up...water, juice, & herbal teas are best. (Milk and milk-based drinks increase can increase phlegm, so skip those.)

Add some salt. Saline solution can help clear your sinuses and calm your irritated throat. You can buy saline spray at the drug store, or mix up your own using 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of salt dissolved in 8 oz. of warm water.

Think tropical. Dry air can irritate your sniffly nose and stinging lungs even more. Purchase a humidifier (this cute Hello Kitty version is available at Target for $39.99!) and keep it plugged in at night while you sleep. For extra relief, add a few drops of essential oil (lavender & eucalyptus are our faves!) to your water.

Stay sanitized. Keep a small bottle of hand sanitizer or a packet of hand wipes in your purse, and use liberally!

Wrap it up. Protect yourself from the cold in a trendy infinity scarf, and be sure to keep your feet & hands covered when you're out in colder climes.

Carry your own. Tissue, that is- we love Sniff tissues for their fun prints and soft textures.

Swipe away. Keep chapped lips at bay by slathering on extra chapstick. Nivea's A Kiss of Milk and Honey keeps our lips smooth and smells delicious!

A beautiful set of perfectly manicured nails is something that can make any women look more polished, but we all know that there are a variety of setbacks that can cause a beauty conscious fashionista to have a nuclear melt down.

Here are some solutions to fix your biggest manicure conundrums!

Fix a smudge in a snap:

You don't have to remove and reapply the polish on a newly smudged nail. Just dip an index finger in a little nail polish remover and gently run it over the smudge in a vertical direction. After the smudge has been smoothed, coat the entire nail in your desired nail polish and its as good as new!

Dry your nails at the speed of light:

This is especially vital for you on the go fashionistas who can't afford to wait forever for paint to dry...literally. There are a variety of ways to dry your polish. There are speed dry top coats, nail fans, drying drops, but nothing works better than some plain 'ol H2O.

Fill a small bowl with ice cold water (the colder the better) and completely submerge your nails for about 60 seconds. Your polish will be smudge resistant in no time!

Forget your heart, mend your broken nail:

This is the best tip to use if your nail has a small crack but is not broken off completely. Position both ends of your cracked nail together, place a thin coat of clear polish over the cracked section, then place a small piece of coffee filter over the break. Cover entire nail with a clear base coat then a couple coats of your favorite nail polish.

Sassy Holidays: Five Sassy Holiday Cocktail Recipes

Christmas is just around the corner, which paves the way for fun parties with close friends and family members. Ignite the taste buds of your guests with some special cocktails that are perfectly festive for the holiday season.

1. Apple Snowflake Martini

Ingredients:
• 3 parts SVEDKA Vodka
• 3 parts Hiram Walker Sour Apple Schnapps
• 3 parts apple cider
Directions:
Shake with ice and strain into a martini glass. Garnish with an apple slice.

2. Spiked Cider

Ingredients:
• 1/2 gallon apple cider
• 12 oz. red wine
• 2 cinnamon sticks
• 3 cloves
• 1 orange cut in half
• 8 oz. brandy
Directions:
Combine ingredients in large bowl and stir.

3. Vixen's Wonderland Nog

Ingredients:

• 4 egg yolks
• 1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tbsp.
• 1 pint whole milk
• 1 cup heavy cream
• 4 oz. Cabo Wabo Reposado
• 1 tsp. freshly grated nutmeg
• 4 egg whites
Directions:
Beat egg yolks in a bowl until they lighten in color. Gradually beat in ½ cup sugar and beat until it has dissolved. Stir in milk, cream, tequila and nutmeg. Place the egg whites in a separate bowl and beat to soft peaks, then gradually add 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Whisk egg whites into the mixture. Chill and serve. Top each glass of egg nog with grated cinnamon and nutmeg.

4. Naughty or Nice Tartini

Ingredients:

• 2 oz. Prairie Organic Vodka
• 2 oz. Honey-Rhubarb Simple Syrup
• 4 oz. Soda
Directions:
Shake with ice and strain over fresh ice in a tall glass. Fill the rest of the glass with soda water.

5. Vita Coco Crantini

Ingredients:
• 1.5 oz. Belvedere Vodka
• 2 oz. cranberry juice
• 2 oz. Vita Coco Pure
• frozen cranberries
• coarse green sugar crystals
Directions:
Combine all ingredients in a shaker with cubed ice. Rim a martini glass with coarse green sugar crystals (or green sanding sugar). Place frozen cranberries in the bottom of the martini glass, and strain liquid into glass.

Looks like Kim K is getting nice and cozy with Halle Berry's ex, Gabriel Aubry. The reality star Kim Kardashian and model Gabriel Aubry have been reportedly dating for over two weeks now. They decided to make their first public outing at the Laker game this past Saturday.

Aubry has been keeping a noticeably low profile with his new fling since his break up with Halle Berry in April 2010. Berry and Aubry had been dating for four years and have a daughter together. With Berry being in a new relationship with actor Oliver Martinez and Aubry obviously moving on, you would think there might be some tension, however Berry and Aubry maintain a close relationship as friends and for their daughter, Nahla. Sure hope Kim doesn't mind!

For those of you few fashionistas who don't know what Black Friday is, it is the day after Thanksgiving when major retail stores start the holiday season shopping off with a bang by offering huge discounts on some of their most popular merchandise. People from all over the United States participate in this consumer's heaven--some even camping outside of their favorite stores to take advantage of the 'early bird specials.'

Here are some tips on how to survive this year's Black Friday:

1. Plan your attack in advanced! Black Friday leaves no room for the indecisive! Take your local store adds and a red pen and select what you wish to purchase.

2. Get up early! There is no need to camp out in front of stores, but I do suggest that you get up early to snag your favorite deals. Almost all stores offering Black Friday sales open their doors hours in advanced to satisfy their retail-crazed customers. Check your local listings for Black Friday store hours. Most major stores offer door buster deals in limited quantity, so if you expect to get your hands on some of these, you should plan to arrive close to the time that the store will open.

3. Be Aggressive! Beware of Black Friday shoppers...THEY ARE CRAZY! People have been bruised and trampled during this time of the year, so don't be afraid to throw a couple elbows. Man your shopping cart with force because if you blink, one of your coveted items could come up missing!

4. Make sure to leave extra room in your car. You will be surprised by all the goods you come home with on Black Friday. You may plan to buy a few items but then find 4 or 5 more that were just to fabulous to pass up.

Chili, former member of the R&B group TLC, was spotted strutting the red carpet of the Soul Train Awards with some new man-candy on her arm. And he boooooooyyyy is he scrumptious!

She formerly dated R&B artist, Usher Raymond, but the two underwent a messy break up in 2004. She has since been searching for her 'Mr. Right' and even launched a reality television series in 2009 documenting this search, called "What Chili Wants." Looks like Chili might have found what she's been looking for all along!

Great things come in pairs, especially with make-up. Here's a great look you can try on your own, brought to by celebrity makeup artist Benjamin Puckey.

3D Cheeks

Layering bronzer with blush gives us the ability to add beautiful dimension to our face. The bronzer gives our cheekbones a lifting effect while the blush gives us a healthy glow.

How to:

1. To create this look, apply a lightweight foundation or tinted moisturizer to entire face.

2. Apply a cream-based bronzer in an upward swirling motion with your fingertips (start at temples and travel down to the upper cheekbone, then down jawline).

3. Layer a cream-based blush along the apples of your cheeks on top of the bronzer(best if pink-toned blush).

OMG Fashionistas!

Our Nov. 4th Los Angeles Fashion Bash was such a SUCCESS! We had over 1400 ladies enter the fabulous Petersen Automotive Museum to shop till they dropped. There were gift bags filled with fabulous free swag, sumptuous cocktails, and tons of unique fashion finds from our vendors. The spa lounge was filled with beauty gurus taming unruly brows and giving faces much needed pick-me-ups. Chevrolet's Ride and Drive Lounge was a hit! Lucky ladies got to take a ride in some of the most stylish Chevrolet cars. This event was truly unforgettable!
